HAMPTON COURT FLOWER SHOW 2005

Objective:

  • Produce design whereby the client would create their own edible garden

Client brief:

  • To be an achievable project for a gardener with limited experience
  •  
  • To incorporate labour-saving techniques to support a manageable plot
  •  
  • To be environmentally beneficial

Specific features:

  • All plants grown to be edible in some way (from cornflowers to carrots)
  •  
  • Include traditions of Sussex (corn dollies, woven willow/hazel hurdles)
  •  
  • Locally sourced building materials (Sussex bricks, tiles and stone)
  •  
  • Original sculptures by Sussex artists (bronze leaping frog and hand-carved cedar throne)
  •  
  • Recycling of by-products and waste (compost area)
  •  
  • Wildlife areas (lacewing house, log pile)
